The Stihl MS 170 is a compact, lightweight chain saw for home use built to replicate the functionality of chain saws used by professionals. The MS 170 is designed for cutting and trimming small trees, firewood and can help with tasks like clearing debris after a heavy storm. The Stihl MS 170 offers features like a trademarked Ematic bar, which helps reduce oil usage by up to 50 percent. As of 2011, the MS 170 has a distributor suggested retail price of $179.95.
