How to Remove Torx Screws From Dishwashers

Nathan McGinty

Torx screws were first introduced in automobile and electronics manufacturing. Also known as "star screws," Torx screws were designed to prevent "cam out," which occurs when a screwdriver slips out of the screw after it reaches a certain torque.

Remove Torx screws from your dishwasher with a Torx screwdriver.

Torx screws have made their way into use in home appliances such as dishwashers.

  1. Unplug the dishwasher or turn off the power to the circuit that controls the dishwasher. Open the dishwasher door if necessary to remove the screws.

  2. Select the proper Torx screw head for the job. Find the correct Torx size needed in your owner or service manual for the dishwasher. Ensure that the Torx head fits into the screw snugly.

  3. Place the proper sized Torx screw head on your screwdriver.

  4. Insert the Torx screwdriver into the screw and turn counterclockwise. On stubborn or rusted-out screws, spray penetrating lubricant on the screw and allow it to soak in according to manufacturer's instructions.
