This makes cleaning cosmetics off nylon clothing a challenge. But with the proper cleaning solutions and immediate action, it is possible to remove makeup stains from nylon.
Things You Will Need
-
Blot the makeup stain if it is fresh. Dab a paper towel on the stain, press down and lift up the paper towel. Do this until no more makeup comes off.
-
Scrape off the makeup with a plastic spoon if the stain isn’t fresh. Gently rub the edge of the spoon against the stain to remove any hardened residue.
-
Pour one or two drops of a cleaning solution on the makeup stain. For lipstick stains, use rubbing alcohol or witch hazel. For eyeliner and mascara stains use dish washing liquid with a drop of cold water. For foundation stains use hydrogen peroxide. For powder stains such as eyeshadow or blush, use mild liquid laundry detergent. Make certain the detergent has no bleach or bleach substitute.
-
Scrub the cleaning solution into the stain using circular motions. Use a nail brush or old toothbrush.
-
Wash nylon garment separately in cold water. Use regular laundry detergent, but don’t use chlorine bleach.
-
Check the nylon for any remaining makeup stains. Repeat steps three, four and five if necessary.
-
Let the clean nylon garment air dry. If the garment is large, tumble dry in the dryer on the lowest setting possible. But read care label first.
