How to Change the Oil in a Poulan Pro Rider
Riding mowers such as the Poulan Pro Lawn Tractor make mowing a large yard much easier. Lawn tractors require annual maintenance to extend the life of the machine. Poulan Pro recommends changing the engine oil in your lawn tractor every 25 operating hours, or every season.
Many people take their lawn tractor to a small engine shop for annual maintenance, including oil changes, but you can change the oil on your lawn tractor yourself and save money.
Things You Will Need
- Oil
- Rag
- Drain pan
Warning
Hot engines can cause severe burns.
-
Start the riding mower and run the engine for three or four minutes to warm the oil. Park the mower on a level surface. Shut off the engine.
-
Lift the hood to open the engine compartment. Wipe around the oil filler cap with a rag to remove any dirt or debris. Remove the filler cap by turning it counterclockwise with your fingers.
-
Place a drain pan under the oil drain valve. Pull off the yellow cap from the drain valve with your fingers. Push the drain valve inward and turn it counterclockwise with your hand to open the valve and drain the oil. Dispose of the oil according to local disposal laws.
-
Push the drain valve inward again and turn it clockwise to close the valve. Push the yellow cap over the drain valve with your fingers.
-
Fill the engine with oil. Pour the oil into the oil filler tube. Check the oil frequently until the level is full. Replace the oil filler cap and tighten. Close the hood.
