How to Remove the Screen From a Kenmore 665 Dishwasher

Nathan McGinty

The Kenmore 665 dishwasher is an under-the-counter model sold by Sears. This model features both a rinse aid system to keep your dishes spot free and a specialized soil removal system to clean even the toughest food off of dishes. The water to operate these appliances comes from your home's water supply pipes.

A screen on the inlet valve in the Kenmore prevents sand and grit from the water system from entering the dishwasher. These screens can occasionally become clogged during normal operation. Remove the screen from a Kenmore 665 dishwasher to clean or replace in the event of a malfunction.

  1. Turn off the power for the Kenmore 665 dishwasher. In most installations, in which the dishwasher is hardwired into place underneath the counter, do this at the main circuit breaker. Open the breaker cover and locate the switch that controls the Kenmore. Move this switch to the "Off" setting. Place a piece of electrical tape over the switch to make sure it isn't turned on while you are working.

  2. Verify that the power is off to the Kenmore by trying to start it. If it doesn't turn on, you've turned off the right switch. If it does start, try turning off a different switch on the circuit.

  3. Turn off the water supply for the Kenmore. In most setups, the Kenmore will be connected to the water supply valve underneath the nearest sink. Rotate the supply valve to the right.

  4. Remove the toe and kick panel on the Kenmore. The toe panel, located at the bottom of the unit, is removed by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. The kick panel is situated between the bottom of the door and the toe panel. Loosen the screws on the side of the panel holding it in place with a Phillips screwdriver. You may need to open the dishwasher door to access the screws at the top. Pull off the toe and kick panels and set aside.

  5. Place a towel on the floor underneath the dishwasher to catch any water.

  6. Locate the valve switch on the underside of the dishwasher. These are usually placed behind the door. You should be able to see the water supply hose from the sink connected to the underside of the valve. Loosen the screws holding the valve in place. If it helps, you can loosen the compression fitting connecting the water supply hose to the valve to give you more room to remove the valve.

  7. Remove the screen with a pair of needle-nose pliers.
