Modern Materials Used in Clocks
Clocks have been made for hundreds of years using traditional methods. The rapid technological progress of the modern era, however, has provided clock manufacturers with exciting new materials and techniques to update this traditional piece of home decor.
Tradition with a Twist
Recently, clocks have been made to resemble antique models, but with a modern skeleton. Plastic and composite materials are lighter and usually less expensive than solid wood. When a modern clock is covered with a leather or an old-fashioned facade, it can blend in with more traditional decor.
The Modern Era
Along with plastics and composites, modern clocks often have digital components made from other modern materials. Microchips made of silicon, LED displays using liquid crystals and microwave receivers used to measure the vibrations of atoms are all found in modern clocks. These clocks can have plastic, modern alloy or stainless steel casings.
Modern-Retro
Neon clocks are a type of "retro" clock made out of modern materials. Electric lighting and timekeeping is an obvious modern component and new models are even better. For instance, modern replicas have easy-to-conceal thin cords used to power the neon clocks.
