How to Remove Wood Glue From Carpet

Wood glue is an very effective adhesive used specifically for bonding woodwork. Though intended for wood-to-wood purposes, the glue can still harden onto household surfaces and can be difficult to remove.

Special precautions must be taken when attempting to remove wood glue from a carpet, which can be damaged without the proper cleaning materials. Wood glue can be easily dissolved within a matter of minutes when the right method is used.

  1. Heat 1 cup of white vinegar on the stove. Allow it to reach a hot temperature just before it begins to simmer.

  2. Pour the vinegar into a clean, plastic spray bottle. Ensure that it works properly by spraying a small amount into a sink or rag.

  3. Spray a generous amount of the vinegar onto the wood glue stain on your carpet. Allow it to soak the residue for at least 30 minutes before removal.

  4. Lightly scrub the glue with a microfiber cloth to loosen it. Avoid using excessive force, as the vinegar should allow the softened glue to be lifted with ease.

  5. Steam clean the affected area or use an appropriate household detergent for a thorough removal.
