How to Get Rid of Curry Smell in Clothing

Cricket Webber

Curry is a spice that adds a pungent flavor to all types of food, and is predominant in Indian food. Once the smell of curry gets into your hair, skin and clothing, it can be extremely difficult to remove.

While some people do not mind the smell of curry in their clothing, others find it distracting and struggle to find ways to remove the smell. If laundering your clothes is not enough to get rid of the curry smell, you can try some other simple steps.

  1. Wash your clothing in cold water and laundry detergent. Add either 1/2 cup of white vinegar or 1/2 cup of baking soda at the beginning of the rinse cycle.

  2. Smell your clothing after the wash cycle. If the curry smell is still strong, wash the clothing again, and add either vinegar or baking soda to the rinse cycle.

  3. Air-dry your clothing in the sun. If you do not have a clothesline, put your clothing on hangers, and hang the clothing with ample space between each piece.

  4. Spray your clothing with a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. Allow the vinegar solution to stay on your clothing until it dries. If you are concerned about the fabric or dye, test the vinegar solution on an inconspicuous spot.
