How to Remove Denim Stains From Leather
Although fashionable, the indigo dye in dark blue denim can leave stains on light leather items such as purses, shoes and couches. Even after several washes, the blue dye can still transfer and bleed onto anything it touches.
Some stains are impossible to remove, but there is a chance you can get rid of a denim stain if you catch it early enough and use the right tools.
Things You Will Need
- Leather cleaner
- White cloth
- White paper towels
- Dish soap
- Bowl
- Sponge
Tip
If you've tried everything and still cannot remove the stain, get the item professionally cleaned before you throw it out.
Warning
Do not rub too hard or you risk damaging the leather.
Leather Cleaner
-
Apply the leather cleaner to a white cloth or sponge and gently wipe the stain. As dye is lifted and transfers onto the cloth or sponge, use a different section to continue wiping the stain.
-
Wipe the leather cleaner with a clean, white paper towel.
-
Repeat steps 1 and 2 if the first application of leather cleaner did not remove the stain completely.
Dish Soap
-
Mix clear dish soap into a bowl of warm water.
-
Dampen a white cloth or sponge with the dish soap and water mix.
-
Wipe the stain with the sponge.
-
Dry the leather with a white paper towel.
