How to Remove Antifreeze Stains on Concrete
If your car is leaking antifreeze, you may find ugly stains on your driveway. The oily residue that antifreeze spills leaves behind can be quite a challenge in terms of stain removal. Antifreeze spills can also potentially be dangerous, since the primary chemical, ethylene glycol, is poisonous to pets and humans.
Luckily, you can remove antifreeze stains from concrete by using the proper products and techniques.
Things You Will Need
- Water
- Hose
- Newspaper
- Laundry detergent powder
- Scrub brush
-
Spray the stained area with a water hose until it is thoroughly saturated.
-
Cover the stain with a dusting of powdered laundry detergent.
-
Position several layers of newspaper on top of the detergent. Press them down to make sure that they are flat and in contact with the stain.
-
Wet the newspaper thoroughly and allow the paper and detergent to remain on the stain for about three hours.
-
Remove the newspapers from the stained area.
-
Scrub the stain with a wet scrub brush with nylon bristles. Rinse the brush as needed until you've scrubbed away the suds and the stain.
-
Spread clean newspaper over the area that you scrubbed and blot it to help it dry more quickly.
