Eating Affects Blood Pressure
Wait at least 30 minutes after eating to take your blood pressure for a more accurate measurement, as recommended by the Mayo Clinic.
Other Factors Affecting Blood Pressure
Ask your doctor to check your home monitor for accuracy before using. Alcohol, caffeine and smoking also affect blood pressure, so refrain from these for 30 minutes before taking blood pressure as well.
Avoid eating, drinking alcohol, smoking or consuming caffeinated products for 30 minutes before blood pressure readings are taken. Take several readings on a monitor checked for accuracy by a medical professional if taking blood pressure at home.
