An angle grinder is a hand held power-tool originally intended to grind metal. The most common use is to grind welds and smooth cut metal surfaces. Fitted with a variety of implements, the angle grinder can be used to cut tile, pavers and can remove paint and rust.

Types

Angle grinders have an electric motor that powers a rotating spindle. A wheel is attached to the spindle and secured in place with a spindle nut.

Wheel Sizes

The most popular wheel sizes are 4 inch as well as 4 1/2 inch. Other wheel (disc) sizes can range up to 12 inches.

Attachments

Angle grinders can be fitted with grinding stones, wire brushes, sanding disc and polishing pads, depending on the task it is to perform.
