How to Make Your Own Paint Pan Liners

When using a paint roller to paint any room or item, you will need a paint pan. The pan is flat and wide enough to run your roller across. After you pour paint in the pan it can be very difficult for clean up once you are finished for the day but still have painting to do. You can make a homemade paint tray pan liner to help make cleanup easier and allow you to reuse the pan more than once.

Aluminum Foil

Paint pan liners help prevent messy cleanups.

Step 1

Measure the size of your paint pan.

Step 2

Cut a piece of aluminum foil approximately six inches larger than the size of the paint pan.  The extra six inches will allow for folding over the edges of the pan.

Step 3

Center the piece of foil over the paint pan and gently push the foil into the corners of the pan.  Continue pushing around the entire perimeter of the pan until you can turn the corners over and smooth out the wrinkles.

Step 4

Pour the paint into the pan and use like you would a normal liner.

Step 5

Pull the liner carefully out of the pan for easy cleanup.

Plastic Bag

Step 1

Choose a bag large enough to hold your paint pan.

Step 2

Slip the paint pan into the bag.  Press the bag into the edges on the inside of the pan.

The bag will lay down better once the paint is in the pan.

Step 3

Pour the paint into the paint pan and run the roller through the paint.

Step 4

Gently pull the bag off while turning it inside out to remove the bag from the paint pan.
