Sand the damaged area lightly with fine-grit sandpaper. Roughen the area to be painted and remove any rust, but avoid sanding the surrounding surface.
Clean the area thoroughly with a rag dampened with paint thinner. Let dry.
Paint over scratches with appliance touch-up paint, using the bottle's applicator brush or another fine-tip paintbrush. Let dry overnight. (Touch-up paint fades and peels from surfaces that are exposed to high temperatures, so use it only on appliances that do not heat.)
Fill nicks by building up thin layers of paint. Allow each layer to dry completely before painting the next layer.
