How to Replace the Lid Lock on a Maytag Bravos

Greg Lindberg

Maytag Bravos washers are top-loading units. When the top door is securely closed, the lid lock control is activated and a wash load is able to run. If the lid lock control is broken the washer will not run a cycle. The lid lock from the control panel can be removed and a new part ordered from a Maytag manufacturer or online or brick-and-mortar retailer.

Step 1

Move the Maytag Bravos washer away from the wall, then unplug the power connector from the wall outlet.

Step 2

Remove the three screws from the back of the control panel using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 3

Lift the control panel toward the front of the washer. Locate the lid lock control connected to the top door of the washer.

Step 4

Disconnect the wires to the lid lock control using needle-nose pliers.

Step 5

Remove the screw connecting the lid lock control to a mounting plate, using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 6

Lift and remove the entire lid lock control. Reinsert a new lid lock control part into the same position.

Step 7

Reinsert the screw into the mounting plate to hold the lid lock control in position.

Step 8

Reconnect the wires to the lid lock control. Lower the control panel back into place.

Step 9

Reinsert the three screws into the back of the control panel, then reconnect the power supply to the wall outlet.
