Gather all the items necessary to perform the project. With the screwdriver, remove the screws from the top of the lamppost and locate the bulb.
Pull the bulb gently to expose the wires it is attached to. These wires may be solid wires, soldered wires or capped wires. If they are solid wires, use a pair of wire cutters to cut the wires just below the bulb itself. If they are soldered wires, use the soldering iron to heat the solder and pull the wires apart. If they are capped wires, simply unscrew the caps and pull the wires apart.
Plug in the soldering iron and allow it to heat up to operating temperature. In the meantime, open the new bulb. This bulb should look exactly like the one you are replacing.
Hold the new bulb in one hand along with the solder. Make the 2 ends of one wire meet. Solder them together. The bulb should now be attached by one wire. You should be able to release the bulb and it stay in position. Now make the other 2 wire ends meet and solder them together.
To test your bulb, simply place something over the solar sensor of the lamppost. The light should come on. Replace the top of the lamppost and screws. Your lamppost is ready for use.
