Today, they are used most commonly to set a mood and create a warm atmosphere. When burning candles, wax sometimes gets spilled. Candle wax can be removed after it has hardened with an iron and brown paper bag. When using this method, place the bag between the iron and the wax and hold the iron directly on the spot to prevent spreading the wax. An ice cube may also be used for the removal of the wax. Once the wax has been removed, unfortunately a stain may be visible from the colored dye in the candle. With a few easy steps, this problem can be remedied too.
Remove any candle wax completely before treating the dye stain.
Apply mineral spirits to a piece of No.0000 steel wool.
Rub the stain lightly along the grain of the wood. Be careful not to rub off too much of the finish.
Wipe the area with a damp cloth to rinse and remove any debris.
Polish the wooden surface with a good furniture polish.
