The Best Way to Pack China Dishes

Packing china dishes correctly is crucial to ensuring their longevity and minimal damage. Whether you are shipping or storing fine china, using bubble wrap is the safest way to package the delicate items. The size of the box, the tightness of the bubble wrap and the amount of gaps left in the box will determine the success of packaging. Following simple steps will help make packing your fine china more successful and easier.

Fine china must be packaged properly to ensure minimal damage.
  1. Find an appropriate box. An appropriate box to use when storing fine china items is one that will not let you pack no more than 10 pounds. The reasoning behind this thought is that heavier boxes are usually stored or shipped on the bottom of stacks. Keeping the weight of your box beneath 10 pounds will ensure that it is kept on top of other boxes, hence keeping your china safe.

  2. Protect the bottom of the box. Place foam cushion or packing peanuts at the bottom of the box to create a cushion for the china items.

  3. Wrap each individual piece of china in bubble wrap, being careful not to wrap too tightly. Wrapping pieces too tightly could create undue stress and cause them to crack or break.

  4. Arrange each piece of bubble-wrapped china in the box and place packing peanuts and/or pieces of cushion foam between each piece.

  5. Fill in the gaps. Once all of your pieces of china are in the box, look for any gaps and fill them in with extra packing peanuts or foam cushion. This will ensure that the items in the box do not move around when you are transporting them.

  • If you are shipping your china it is a good idea to buy insurance with the carrier. Even the most carefully packaged china can chip or crack.
