How to Make a Mosquito Spray

Mosquitoes are not only nuisances whose bites cause annoying itching, but they can carry potentially serious blood-borne diseases that may produce long-term health problems or even death.

That's why it's important to protect yourself from mosquito bites. Mosquito repellent sprays are available at any major drugstore. However, these sprays are often expensive and contain potent chemicals which can irritate the skin and breathing. You can easily make your own natural mosquito repellent spray at home.

Pour 10 oz. of pure citronella oil and 3 oz. of distilled water into a spray bottle. Use pure natural citronella oil, not fragrance oil. Citronella fragrance oils are chemically made and do not repel mosquitoes.

Place the spray nozzle cap back onto the spray bottle. Make sure it is closed tightly.

Shake the spray bottle vigorously before each use, as water and oil separate.

Spray the citronella oil mixture on your skin before going outdoors. You can also spray liberally in areas around the home.

Things You Will Need

  • Citronella oil
  • Distilled water
  • Spray bottle

Tip

  • Pure natural citronella oil is available at your local health food store.
