Natural Air Freshener Recipes

Using natural ingredients to freshen the air in your home is a great way to absorb odors and create a nicely scented environment for your family. These air fresheners are non-toxic, and safe for all family members and pets.

Bathroom Air Freshener

Place a small bowl of baking soda on an upper bathroom shelf to absorb odors without adding any chemical odors. The cardboard tube inside a roll of toilet paper will soak up a few drops of your favorite essential oil, and will release the scent every time the roll is turned.

Lemon Air Freshener

You can easily create a lemon-scented spray that freshens the air and absorbs odors. Make this natural air freshener by dissolving half a cup of baking soda into two cups of very hot water. Once the baking soda is thoroughly dissolved, add one quarter cup of lemon juice, and pour into a misting spray bottle.

Vanilla Spice Air Freshener

To make a vanilla spice air freshener for the holidays, place a cup of water, a cup of white vinegar, one tbsp. natural vanilla extract, one tsp. whole cloves, and one cinnamon stick in a small pot. Bring them to a boil, then turn down the heat, simmering all ingredients for two to three minutes. Allow the liquid to cool before straining out the cloves and cinnamon stick, and pouring into a spray bottle.

These natural spray air fresheners should be sprayed into the air in the center of a room, avoiding walls and furniture, to prevent potential staining or other discoloration. In addition, while all of the ingredients in these air fresheners are safe for human consumption, there are some sensitive individuals who may have an allergic reaction. You should list ingredients on any spray bottles to help you identify any potential problems.
