Instead of adding more plastic to landfills, you can easily repair your old trash can yourself.
Things You Will Need

Remove any debris that is inside of the garbage can.

Mix one part white vinegar to one part water. Wipe both the inside and outside of the plastic garbage can using a cloth or sponge saturated with the vinegar-water mixture.

Rinse out the inside of the plastic garbage can using a garden hose. Allow the garbage can to dry completely before continuing.

Remove all frayed plastic around the damaged area, cutting it off with a utility knife.

Sand the area with 40 grit sandpaper. Continue sanding until the damaged area has an inward slant.

Press the self-adhesive fiberglass tape inside the can over the damaged area.

Apply the epoxy on top of the tape and smooth with a paint scraper. Allow the epoxy to dry.
