How to Install Builders Edge Inc. Exterior Shutters

Samantha Volz

The Builders Edge company has stores in all 50 states of the United States, and provides home design options for windows, doors, roofs, and other home projects.

Shutters can change the look of the exterior of your home.

If you have decided to use Builders Edge shutters, the company provides step-by-step instructions for installing the shutters on your home to ensure proper holding and the best look possible.

  1. Line up the shutter with the edge of your window. Make a pencil mark on the window or the wall next to it as to exactly where you want the shutter to go.

  2. Pre-drill holes in the shutter with a 1/4-inch drill bit in the location of the screws that come with the shutters. For shutters under 55 inches, use four screws (one in each corner). For those 55 inches or larger, use six screws (one in each corner and two in the center).

  3. Line up the shutter with the wall. Drill through the pre-drilled holes in the shutter and into the wall surface. Drill 2 3/4 inches into the wall for proper holding.

  4. Insert the screw into the hole; push it in firmly as far as it will go. Tap the end of the screw gently with a hammer to secure it in place; do not hammer too strongly, or you can damage the screw or cause the shutter to warp under the pressure.

  5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for all screws needed for your shutter.

  6. Tip

The screws provided by Builders Edge will hold to any surface, including wood, aluminum, vinyl, stucco, brick, and masonry.
