How to Clean a Jandy AquaPure Water Purification System
The Jandy AquaPure Purification System makes chlorine for your pool out of salt, sanitizing pool water by killing algae and bacteria. When the salt in the water passes through the chlorine generator cell it is converted into chlorine.
After the pool water is purified, it changes back into salt and the process is repeated. The Jandy AquaPure Purification System has an automatic self-cleaning component that removes scale, or white crusty deposits, from the cell. If you discover the cell has scaling after checking once every two months, it must be cleaned. Additionally, the flow/temp/salinity sensor should be checked for scaling yearly and may need to be cleaned.
Things You Will Need
- Jandy AquaPure Purification System
- Garden hose
- One pint of muriatic acid
- Two quarts of water
- Bucket
- Household cleaning pad
-
Remove the cell from the Jandy AquaPure Purification System. Spray the cell with a high pressure garden hose. No further cleaning is necessary if this removes the scaling.
-
Remove the sensor from its port on the cell if scaling is detected. Plug the two adjoining ports. Add one pint of muriatic acid to two quarts of water in a bucket. Pour the solution into the cell so it begins to foam. Leave the solution in the cell until the foaming has stopped or until the solution has been in the cell for more than 30 minutes.
-
Wash the cell well with water. Repeat the cleaning process if necessary.
-
Turn the flow/temp/salinity sensor counterclockwise to remove it from the three-port cell. Clean the sensor contacts gently with a household cleaning pad. Rinse well with water. This should be done yearly.
-
Place the cell and the flow/temp/salinity sensor back into the Jandy AquaPure Purification System and resume normal operation.
Warning
Wear goggles and rubber gloves when handling muriatic acid. Add acid to water, not water to acid, so it does not splash.
