How to Clean the Outside of a Mobile Home
Cleaning the exterior of your mobile home is the single best thing you can do to keep your property looking new and well-kept. The job does not require hiring a cleaning service or using expensive power tools. With a few basic tools and household materials, the task is a simple do-it-yourself endeavor.
Things You Will Need
- Mop bucket
- Deck brush (long-handled scrub brush)
- Garden hose with a spray nozzle
- Plain white vinegar
- Step stool
-
Fill the mop bucket with water. Add 1 cup of vinegar for each gallon of water. The vinegar water will be your basic cleaning solution
-
Use a garden hose to soak a 4-foot wide section of the home's exterior. This prepares the area for cleaning.
-
Dip the deck brush in the mop bucket and scrub the soaked area. For stubborn stains, hold the brush as close to the head as possible and press firmly. Use the step stool to get closer to higher sections near the roof.
-
Use the hose to rinse the scrubbed area. You should notice a difference immediately between the cleaned area and the rest of the home.
-
If stains remain on the cleaned section, repeat the process, focusing only on the stained areas. Add a basic cleaner to the vinegar cleaning solution, if necessary.
-
Move to the next 4-foot section and repeat from Step 2 until all of the siding is clean. Refill the mop bucket as needed with more of the vinegar and water solution.
Tip
When choosing a brush, look for one with stiff bristles with a head 12 to 18 inches wide. Larger brushes will be harder to control. You can use other cleaners instead of vinegar. Be careful to follow the safety instructions on the cleaning container if you do. Be aware that the cleaning solution will spatter on your clothing and may get in your eyes. Clean all surfaces, including the trim and windows. Do not scrub window screens.
Warning
When working with cleaning chemicals, always wear eye protection. If you get solution in your eyes, rinse thoroughly with cool, clean water.
Select a cleaning chemical that is environmentally friendly. It will be washing into the ground around your home.
