Homemade Peppermint Oil Mosquito & Bug Repellent
When you are going to be active in the yard or camping, mosquitoes may be drawn to your bare skin, leaving behind bright, round welts.
While commercial insect repellents containing DEET will keep mosquitoes away, they might be too strong for people with sensitive skin or undesirable to people who wish to reduce the use of chemicals in their lives. Make your own mosquito repellent out of peppermint oil to keep these pests away naturally.
Things You Will Need
- Spray bottle
- Peppermint oil
- Tea tree oil
- Eucalyptus oil
-
Fill a spray bottle with 8 oz. of water. The water dilutes the oil and prevents it from burning the skin.
-
Add 6 drops of peppermint oil to the bottle.
-
Add 6 drops of tea tree oil to the bottle.
-
Add 9 drops of eucalyptus oil to the bottle.
-
Screw on the top of the spray bottle and shake well.
-
Spray the oil mixture onto your body and clothes before going out. This keeps away mosquitoes as well as other pests.
Tip
Soak cotton balls in a mix of peppermint oil and tea tree oil to keep pests away from stored clothing.
Warning
Be careful when using essential oils on the skin, as a large amount on sensitive skin can lead to a rash.
