How to Fix the Belt Drive on an Admiral Dryer
If the drum is not rotating on your Admiral dryer or the unit is making noises during the drying cycle, you may need to replace the drive belt. Performing the repair work yourself is not difficult and may save you money on costly repairs. Follow the guidelines below for tips on replacing your Admiral dyer belt.
Never attempt to perform work on your appliance if you do not feel completely capable of completing the task.
Things You Will Need
- Putty knife
- Replacement drive belt
- Screwdriver
Tip
While you have the unit open, clean or lightly vacuum any residual dirt or link you find inside of the unit.
Warning
Always unplug your Admiral Dryer before attempting to repair.
-
Unplug the dryer from the power source, and remove the lint basket. Pry up the top of the Admiral dryer lid by placing a putty knife under the two front top clips of the dryer seal to release the lid. Lift the top lid and fold over the back of the dryer or prop against a wall. If the belt is off the drum or looks worn or frayed it should be replaced.
-
Remove the two screws from the front panel of your Admiral dryer, and disconnect any wiring connecting it to the door switch. Remove the front cover, and set it aside.
-
Lying down, remove the old drive belt if still positioned on the drum. If the belt is positioned too tightly to remove by hand, you can cut it off. Unthread the old belt from the pulley mechanism and discard.
-
Attach the new belt to the pulley by following the threading instructions shown on the Admiral dryer diagram link. (See Resources below.) Be sure the ridged, rubber surface of the belt is touching the drum. Line up the drum on the rollers, and check that the pulley is properly positioned.
-
Close up the front panel by attaching the screws and replacing the wiring that was removed earlier. Replace the top of the dryer, snapping it back into place while making sure to get a good seal on it. Replace the lint basket and plug in unit.
