How to Remove Sisal Rope Odor

As annoying as sisal rope odor can be, there are a few things that you can try to eliminate the odor using basic household products.

Things You Will Need

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Vacuum
  1. Lay the sisal rope flat on the floor and shake baking soda liberally all over it, trying your best to cover the surface of the rope completely.

  2. Allow the baking soda to stay on the rope for up to an hour. The baking soda should help to absorb some of the odor from the sisal rope.

  3. Thoroughly vacuum up all the of baking soda from the rope, being sure to go over the rope again and again until it appears that all the baking soda has been sucked into the vacuum. An added bonus is that the baking soda will help to neutralize some of the odors inside your vacuum bag.

  4. Fill a spray bottle with undiluted white vinegar and screw the spray top on very tightly.

  5. Spray the sisal rope very liberally with the white vinegar. The vinegar acts as a deodorizer and will help to eliminate the unpleasant odor from the sisal rope.

  6. Allow the rope to dry. If the odor is not eliminated when the vinegar evaporates, repeat step 5 until the rope has a neutral odor.
