But, sometimes Silly Putty can get stuck in carpet, blankets, or even hair and needs to be safely removed. Thus, it is essential to learn how to properly dissolve and dispose of Silly Putty.
Things You Will Need
- Goo Gone
- WD-40
- Alcohol
- Rag

The manufacturers of Silly Putty claim alcohol will dissolve Silly Putty. This can be another option if Goo Gone or WD-40 is not available. Remember to gently rub and not forcibly scrub the chemical product after application to the affected area.
Warning
Be careful to wash your hands after using any chemical product. These chemicals should not be in direct contact with your skin or they may cause serious side effects. Do not touch your eyes after handling chemical cleaning products. It may cause a burning sensation or severe damage.

Pick up all the pieces of Silly Putty that can easily be removed and do not need to be dissolved.

Pour Goo Gone or WD-40 onto the area affected with Silly Putty. Apply enough of the Goo Gone or WD-40 to completely cover the affected area. Wait five minutes for the Goo Gone or WD-40 to completely have its effect. Be patient and do not rush into removing the Goo Gone or WD-40. Removing the product early will lower the efficiency with which they dissolve Silly Putty.

Take a wet rage and gently rub the affected area until the Silly Putty begins to dissolve. After a while, you should begin to see the Silly Putty begin to dissolve. You may have to re-wet the cloth after a few minutes of rubbing.

Repeat the application and removal of the Goo Gone or WD-40 as many times as needed. You may have to repeat the process a few times until all the remaining remnants of the Silly Putty have been removed.
