How to Clean the Moisture Sensor in a Kenmore Elite HE3 Dryer

Meredith Jameson

The Kenmore Elite HE3 dryer has several built-in sensors to track load size, time and moisture in the drum. These sensors help adjust the cycle according to the specific fabrics, the amount of items in the dryer and the moisture level of the items. However, if the dryer seems to be over-drying or under-drying items, the moisture sensor may need to be cleaned since lint or other residue could be preventing the sensor from reading the load correctly.

Step 1

Disconnect power to the Kenmore dryer by unplugging the cord from the socket.

Step 2

Open the dryer door. Locate the sensor strips near the bottom of the drum near the lint screen.

Step 3

Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and wipe the sensors carefully.

Step 4

Allow the sensors to air-dry then wipe them with a lint-free cloth to remove any residual rubbing alcohol.

Step 5

Shut the dryer door and plug the power cord back into the wall.
