How to Drill Holes in IKEA Furniture
You can put together most IKEA do-it-yourself furniture pieces, such as cabinets and bookshelves, following the included instructions. But in some cases the pieces can't be connected properly because of a misplaced screw hole. Fix this by drilling a new hole into the IKEA furniture yourself in the correct place. Or you can create a new hole in your bookshelves or other furniture to allow for more customization.
Step 1
Remove any books, clothing or other objects from the piece of IKEA furniture.
Step 2
Mark the area where you want to drill the hole with a pencil. If available, place an IKEA drill template flat against the furniture and use it to mark the drill holes.
Step 3
Attach a straight wood drill bit to an electric drill. The size drill bit depends on the size hole you need to create. For example, use a 1/8-inch drill bit to drill a hole for a No. 6 screw.
Step 4
Hold the drill bit over the marked spot at an angle of 90 degrees, and then drill a hole in the furniture.
