How to Clean a Rattan Area Rug

Step 1

Vacuum the rattan area rug regularly to collect loose dirt and debris that is tracked across the rug.

Step 2

Pour a cup of warm water into a dish, along with one squirt of clear liquid dish soap. The dish soap will allow you to spot clean the rug without damaging the fibers of the rug.

Step 3

Dip a cloth into the soapy water, wring out excess moisture, then wipe over the rug where needed to remove spots, stains and buildup.

Step 4

Blot dry with a clean cloth to absorb any excess moisture after cleaning.

Step 5

Take the rug to a professional cleaning facility if a basic soapy water solution does not clean the rug to your satisfaction.
