How to install pressed metal panels in bathrooms and showers

How to intall pressed metal panels in bathrooms and showers. Beautiful and unique way to accent your bathroom in an original and vintage manner.

  1. To install panels in a bathroom you simply install a skirting board around the floor and seal along the top edge of it. Then paint the skirting with an oil based paint. Skirting is not required in a shower recess.

  2. Rest the panels on a small spacer, placed between the skirting and the bottom of the panels, such as a tile spacer or matchstick. In the shower, place the spacer between the floor and the panel. This will allow moisture to condense on the back of the sheet and then drain away or evaporate through the opening along the bottom.

  3. Install the panels with building glue, such as liquid nails. The glue should be applied in vertical stripes which can be no closer than 150mm apart. This will allow water and condensation to run downward behind the panels. For a bathroom, glue is a better choice than nails as there are no holes pierced in the panels and, if you are pretty generous with the glue, it will take away any drummy sound from the walls of the shower recess.

Paint and install timber trim above panels. This helps prevent the top edge from acquiring moisture.

The panels may now be painted with an oil based paint.
