Clean your ceramic tiles with a dish soap and dry them off completely. Make sure that they are clean as dust and dirt can interfere with the paint sticking to the tiles.
Apply a ceramic tile surface conditioner to prime the tiles. It will dry clear and it allows the paint to stick to the tiles better, just like primer does when you paint your walls.
Paint your design on your ceramic tile. Choose a design that fits in with the style of your home or the room that you are decorating. Use stencils or stamps in you wish. Make sure to use a permanent enamel paint that is specifically for ceramics.
Let the paint dry completely on the tile.
Apply an enamel glaze to the ceramic tiles to help protect them from fading and chipping. This also makes the tiles washable, without the paint wearing off. Use a wide foam brush and try to paint the tiles with the least number of strokes necessary, trying not to go over the parts you have already done.
Allow the glaze on the tiles approximately 24-48 hours to dry before you install the tiles on your wall, countertop or backsplash.
