How to Put Together a Metal Bed Frame

Metal bed frames are the structures that support your box spring and mattress. Most metal bed frames have four small wheels in each corner of the frame so you can easily move the frame around. Most often, metal bed frames will have two bed rails and two or three cross rails. To protect your walls from being damaged, you may wish to purchase end caps for your metal bed frame as well.

Most bed frames can be assembled in half an hour or less.
  1. Determine the location of your bed. Lay the two metal side rails where you want your bed to be.

  2. Attach the two or three cross rails on each side of the two side rails, using the mounting bolts and screws. In many cases, the cross rails will already be attached to the side rails and you will only have to extend them.

  3. Connect each cross rail with your glide brackets. Before tightening the brackets, use the tape measure to ensure that the width is appropriate for your bed. Usually, the glide brackets are secured by a small screw or bolt, so use your adjustable wrench or screwdriver to tighten the brackets.

  4. Adjust the frame, if necessary, to fit your box spring and mattress. Test the mattress by lying down on it. Tighten any bolts or screws as needed.
