How to Get Rid of White Rings on a Wood Table

If a guest forgot to use a coaster for his drink, it leaves a small white ring as lingering evidence on your wood furniture for all the world to see. Well, maybe not all the world, but it can feel that way as it’s the first thing your eyes will rest upon every time you look at your table. These pesky stains aren’t the demise of your furniture. With a few things you may already have around your home, these stains can be eliminated.

Remove the Ring with Mayonnaise

Step 1

Dip a clean soft cloth into some mayonnaise. 

Step 2

Rub the affected are with the cloth to apply a light coat of mayonnaise to it. 

Step 3

Allow the mayonnaise to sit on the stain overnight, at least eight hours. 

Step 4

Wipe the area with a clean cloth in the morning to remove the mayonnaise. 

Step 5

Polish the furniture with furniture polish to restore the shine. 

Remove the Ring with White Vinegar

Step 1

Mix white vinegar and cooking oil in equal parts. 

Step 2

Dip a clean soft cloth into the solution and wring it out well. 

Step 3

Rub the cloth over the area making sure to wipe with the grain if the wood. 

Step 4

Continue to gently wipe the area adding more of the solution as needed until the ring is gone. 

Step 5

Wipe the area with a clean soft cloth to dry it. 

Step 6

Polish the area with furniture polish to restore the shine.

  • Mayonnaise
  • Soft clean cloth
  • Furniture polish
  • White vinegar
  • Cooking oil


  • Avoid the use of harsh chemicals and abrasives that may damage the wood.
