Clean the laminate surface with a pH-neutral cleanser, removing any dirt or debris that may be present. Dry the countertop with a towel after cleaning.
Sand the countertop with 200-grit sandpaper attached to a sanding block. Remove any glossy finish present on the countertop to create a surface suitable for paint adherence. Wipe the countertop with a damp towel after sanding to remove any residue.
Apply a base coat of latex interior satin paint with a foam roller. Build the coat to an even covering, using thin layers of the paint, and then allow the coat to dry overnight. Examine the laminate to determine if you can see the laminate surface through the paint coating. Apply a second coat of paint if necessary for concealing the old laminate finish. Wait overnight for the second coat of paint to dry.
Apply additional colors to the base coat to create patterns or simulate textures. Use a paintbrush for greater control over the additional colors, allowing the new coat to dry overnight before finishing with the Envirotex.
Mask the edges of any surfaces bordering the countertop with masking tape to keep the Envirotex from spreading onto them.
Mix the Envirotex coating according to the manufacturer's instructions in a clean plastic container using a wooden painter's stick. Make sure that you mix the components thoroughly, whipping them until you achieve the consistency of cake batter.
Pour the mixed Envirotex over the countertop in an even pattern. Use the edge of a stiff piece of paper like cardstock to spread the coating across the surface of the countertop, making the liquid flow together. Wait five minutes for the coating to de-gas, watching as any bubbles created during the mixing process rise to the top.
Exhale lightly onto any bubbles that make it to the top of the coating to pop them. The carbon dioxide from your breath breaks up the bubbles in place.
Allow the Envirotex to cure completely for 36 to 72 hours before using the countertop. Longer curing time is necessary for cooler temperatures.
