Ignition switches light the burners on a gas grill.Ignition switches light the burners on a gas grill.
When lighting a gas grill, the ignition switch is pushed after turning the gas valve on. The ignition switch makes an audible clicking noise and creates a spark to light the burners without using matches to start the grill. If the ignition switch does not click, it is faulty and needs replacing.

Step 1

Place a pair of adjustable pliers on the lock nut under the ignition switch. The ignition switch is on the right side of the grill near the burner controls in the small side of a key hole. Turn the pliers counterclockwise to loosen the lock nut.

Step 2

Slide the ignition switch into the large opening of the key hole. Push the ignition switch down through the key hole.

Step 3

Place a pair of needle nose pliers on the black wire connector at the bottom of the switch. Hold the ignition switch in the other hand and pull the black wire off. Repeat this procedure to remove the white wire from the top wiring connector underneath the lock washer.

Step 4

Hold the new ignition switch under the control platform. Press the white wiring connector onto the top wiring connector under the lock washer. Press the black wiring connector onto the bottom wiring connector.

Step 5
