How to Take the Top Off a Whirlpool Estate Washing Machine

Megan Mattingly-Arthur

Manufactured by Whirlpool, Estate washing machines are Whirlpool quality washers designed for the budget-conscious crowd. With reliability and longevity expected from the Whirlpool brand, Estate washers can run for many years with the proper care and maintenance.

To troubleshoot and maintain the Estate washer's main components you'll need to open or take off the top of the washing machine. Though it may sound difficult, removing the top of a Whirlpool Estate washer is relatively simple and can be accomplished in just minutes.

Tip

When you're ready to replace the top panel, simply snap it into place and screw it back down.

Warning

Use proper safety precautions when working with electrical appliances. Always check to ensure that your Whirlpool Estate dryer is unplugged before disassembling it.

  1. Unplug your Whirlpool Estate washing machine before attempting to service it.

  2. Disconnect your Whirlpool Estate washer from its water supply during repair.

  3. Use a small flashlight to illuminate the space underneath the top panel of the washer. Look for two small clips located about four inches in from the edges.

  4. Slide a putty knife or flathead screwdriver underneath the top panel of the washer. Find the clips with the tip of the knife or screwdriver, and apply pressure to release them.

  5. With the clips released, lift the top panel of the washer straight up. Slide the top panel back and out of your way while you complete repairs.

  6. Remove the top panel completely, if desired, by using a screwdriver to unscrew the screws that attach the top panel to the washer cabinet.
