How to Lubricate Vinyl Windows
Vinyl windows are an economical addition to your home, and less difficult to clean than standard windows. Sometimes though, vinyl windows can feel tight or difficult to operate. Often lubricating the vinyl window resolves the issue and the windows slide without effort.
There are no moving mechanisms to lubricate on the vinyl window. The tracks, and the sides of the window sash that make contact with the track, are all that need lubricating. Spray silicone lubricant is available at hardware stores.
Things You Will Need
- Rags
- Spray silicone lubricant

Pull the tops of both window sashes out of the window frame as you would when cleaning the windows.

Clean the vinyl liner tracks and the edges of the window sash with a dry rag. The vinyl liner is the inside frame of the window. For heavy dirt buildup use a solution of dish soap and warm water to clean the vinyl liner and the sides of the sash panels. Dry the liner and sash with a clean cloth.

Spray some silicone lubricant onto a dry cloth. Wipe both vinyl liners down with the cloth. Wipe the sides of the sashes where they fit into the liner with the cloth. Spray more lubricant on the cloth as necessary to apply a thin coat of lubricant to the liner and sashes. Do not spray directly onto the parts.

Reinstall the sashes into the window opening. Operate each sash up and down two to three times to evenly distribute the lubricant.
