Specifications of Elevator Door Sizes

Elevators can be installed with a single front entrance or with an additional side or back entrance supplement. From the smallest utility dumbwaiter to wide freight elevators, one can find the dimensions for the elevator doors.

Residential Elevators

Homes with 20 square feet to spare can be fitted with a residential elevator, according to G.C.E. Residential Elevators, a manufacturer of custom elevators. Doors can be installed in the front as well as added on the side or back of the elevator. The standard door size is 36 inches wide. However, its height is dependent on the cab size. G.C.E. offers three cab heights--6 feet 8 inches, 7 feet and 8 feet.

LULA Elevators

Limited Use Limited Access elevators, or LULA, are used in office buildings, public facilities and other non-residential establishments. Although public facilities are required to provide handicap access to the public, LULA elevators do not meet the requirements of the ADA, or American with Disabilities Act. Dumbwaiters

Dumbwaiters are utility elevators that can be installed in homes and commercial buildings. Some older homes were built with dumbwaiters to transport laundry between multiple floors. Hotels often have dumbwaiters to transport food and laundry between floors as well. Freight Elevators
