How to Anchor a Loft Bed to the Wall
Loft beds are built to be safe and sturdy. However, with age or a missing component, they can get wobbly. In most cases, a wobbly loft bed is safe, but most parents would rather err on the side of caution. Mounting the bed to a wall stud is the easiest and fastest way to stabilize a loft bed.
This project should take no more than 10 minutes once you gather your supples.
Things You Will Need
- L braces (for wooden bunk beds)
- C braces (for metal bunk beds)
- Wood screws
- 2 drywall anchors
- Power drill and bit
- Hammer
- Stud finder
Tip
If possible, make sure at least one screw for each brace is driven into a wall stud.
-
Slide a stud finder across the wall and find a stud near a bed post on each of the two walls of the corner in which the loft bed is set up.
-
Set your L brace or C brace in position on a bed post and corresponding stud. Mark the wood and wall through the screw holes with the tip of a wood screw.
-
Drill pilot holes in the wall and bed post, using a drill bit 1/8 inch narrower than the diameter of the screws.
-
Drive in a drywall anchor with a hammer to provide a solid mount for the screws if any of the pilot holes miss a stud.
-
Screw the brace into position, using the power drill. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for the other brace and stud.
