How Does a Tappan Stove Timer Clock Work?
A Tappan stove timer works like a standard digital timer, except that the timer is attached to the Tappan stove. The Tappan timer can be used to time food cooking in the oven, on the stovetop and in the microwave, and even events unrelated to cooking. The timer does not affect the cooking function of the Tappan stove.
Interface
The Tappan stove timer interface features a display, directional buttons and a “Clock” and “Timer” button. The display is located in the center of the device, the directional buttons are located on the right side of the display and the “Clock” and “Timer” buttons are located on the left side of the display. The timer itself is located on the back elevated portion of the stove range.
Setting the Clock
When the unit is first plugged in, the Tappan clock blinks at “12:00” to let you know that it is not the correct time and the clock needs to be set. While the clock has nothing to do with the timer function, the clock allows you to tell the time easily in the kitchen. To set the clock, you can press the “Clock” button to start the process and then press the "Up" or "Down" directional buttons until you reach the current time. The "Up" button advances the time, while the "Down" button decreases it. If you hold down the "Up" or "Down" directional button, the time changes rapidly.
Setting the Timer
After you press the Tappan “Timer” button to begin setting the timer, “0:00” appears on the display to indicate that the timer is ready for input. Like a clock, the hours are to the left side of the colon and the minutes to the right. The timer can be set up to 12 hours and must be set for at least 1 minute. You can hold the "Up" or "Down" directional button to advance the time rapidly forward or rapidly backward, respectively. As soon as the button is released, the timer begins its countdown. The colon between the minute and the hour place will blink to indicate that the timer progress is displayed and not the clock.
Result
When the time on the Tappan timer runs out, the display reads “0:00” and the timer starts beeping until the “Clock” button is pressed. The “Clock” button turns off the timer. You can press the “Clock" button during the timer countdown to cancel the timer completely and display the clock.
