How to Light the Flame on a Beckett R7184B Furnace by Honeywell

The Beckett R7184B is a home furnace manufactured by Honeywell. Like many other furnaces, the Beckett uses a pilot light to start it. The pilot light in the Beckett is designed to stay on all the time. However, there are times when it can go out.

In these instances, there is no need to call a technician to fix the problem, as you can relight the pilot light yourself.

  1. Switch your home thermostat to the "Off" position. Ensure the thermostat is set so that it isn't calling for heat.

  2. Remove the screws on the side panel of the furnace. Remove the panel and locate the copper gas line that runs to the shutoff valve.

  3. Turn the valve to the position marked "Off." Wait for at least a minute for the unit to be clear of any residual gas.

  4. Turn the valve to the position marked "Pilot."

  5. Press the pilot igniter button while holding a long-handled oven lighter over the pilot port. Continue to press the igniter until the pilot flame lights.

  6. Hold the igniter down after the pilot lights for about a minute. This will give the heat sensor enough time to pick up the flame and keep it lit.

  7. Switch the valve to the "On" position.
