Roper Dryer Wiring Instructions

The result is a safe and productive Roper clothes dryer that will perform the function of drying your clothing whenever it is called upon.

1. Locate the silver electrical panel cover on the back of the Roper dryer. Remove the screws keeping it secure with a screwdriver.

2. Locate the hole below the electrical terminals. Install a 3/4-inch UL listed wire strain relief in this hole. Remove the screws holding the strain relief together. Slip one piece of the strain relief, with the tab in the "Up" position, into the hole. Slip the other piece of the strain relief, with the tab in the "Down" position, into the hole. Hold the strain relief in place. Re-install the screws into the strain relief just enough to hold the strain relief in position in the hole below the electrical terminals.

3. Slip the wire ends of the four-prong dryer electrical supply cord though the installed wire strain relief. Use your finger to pull the wires in an upward fashion. Doing so will make it easier to work with the wires when attaching them to the dryer electrical terminals.

4. Locate the center silver-colored terminal screw. Remove the screw with a screwdriver.

5. Locate the looped neutral ground wire attached to the external ground conductor screw. This screw will be located to the left of the center silver-colored terminal screw. Remove the neutral ground wire and unloop the neutral ground wire. The wire, now unlooped, will still be connected to the dryer.

6. Locate the center white wire on the dryer electrical supply cord. Connect the unlooped neutral ground wire and the center white wire on the dryer electrical supply cord. Attach these two wires to the center silver-colored terminal and replace the screw that was previously removed from this location. Tighten the screw so that the wires are unable to be pulled from this center location.

7. Locate the ground wire from the dryer electrical supply cord. This wire will either be bare copper or in a green-colored sheathing with the proper amount of wire exposed. Connect this wire to the external ground conductor screw with a screwdriver. This screw previously held the looped neutral ground wire and is located to the left of the center silver-colored terminal screw. Tighten this screw so that the ground wire cannot be pulled loose.

8. Locate the two remaining wires protruding from the dryer electrical supply cord. Locate the two remaining open terminals with screws on the dryer and nothing attached to them. Line up each remaining line to an open terminal. Attach these wires, one at a time, to an open terminal. Secure the wire to the terminal with a screwdriver so that each wire cannot be pulled loose.

9. Tighten the screws on the the installed wire strain relief. Do not tighten the screws so tightly that they crimp the dryer's electrical supply cord. Tighten them just enough that the cord is secure.

10. Replace the silver electrical panel cover on the back of the Roper dryer. Secure the panel to the back of the dryer with the previously removed screws. Your Roper dryer is now wired and ready to be plugged into the electrical outlet.
