How to Troubleshoot a Maytag Washer on Spin Cycle
In theory, when your Maytag washer reaches its spin cycle, it should begin spinning. As it spins, it will simultaneously throw water out of the appliance through the drain hose, which empties into a sink or drain pipe. Although the process is fairly simple, there are a number of problems that may occur.
As soon as you determine what is causing your washer to not spin or drain directly, you should be able to make changes that will eliminate the problem from occurring again.
-
Open the washer and redistribute the clothing inside the appliance. If the items inside the washer become unbalanced, the washer will have difficulty spinning correctly. This is especially true when you wash large, bulky items such as bedspreads. Try to move the clothing so it is spread evenly throughout the drum.
-
Add a few extra pieces of clothing to the load if you have only one or two small items -- like socks or T-shirts -- in the washer. Having only a couple of items causes an imbalance, much like having too many items in the washer does.
-
Move the end of the drain hose so that it drains into an outlet that is less than 96 inches above the floor. Make sure the hose is not pinched or kinked, as this can cause it not to be able to facilitate the flow of water from the washer and adversely affect the spin cycle.
-
Avoid placing too much detergent into the washer. The washer includes a "Sud" function that clears the suds from the appliance, but this phase forces the spin cycle to cease to work until it completes.
