How to Troubleshoot a Whirlpool Thin Twin
The Whirlpool Thin Twin is a stacked washer and dryer unit with a porcelain basket, 1.5-cubic-foot capacity, five automatic cycles and four wash/rinse temperature settings, a lint filter and five drying cycles with three different temperature settings on the dryer.
The unit is meant for use in small rooms, closets and apartments, and can be purchased online or in select appliance stores. If your unit malfunctions, you may wish to attempt some troubleshooting prior to contacting Whirlpool for repair assistance.
Things You Will Need
- Clean cloth(s)
- Measuring tape
- Wrench (if necessary)
- Plywood
-
Plug the Thin Twin into a grounded three-prong outlet if it is not working. Check the circuit breaker or fuse, and reset it as needed.
-
Add a ¾-inch-thick piece of plywood under the unit if the floor is uneven or sagging under the weight of the unit. Adjust the legs so that all four touch the floor evenly to reduce vibration and noise.
-
Tighten the washing machine hoses if there is leaking. Look at the plumbing throughout the house or residence for signs of drainage problems if the washing machine is not draining well. Take items out of the washer to reduce the possible deflection of water off the top of the load.
-
Clean the water inlet screens on the hoses if the water is not filling the washer. Open both the hot and cold water valves, and straighten the hose. Line up the wash control knob to a cycle, and pull it out to start.
-
Lower the drain hose if the water is not draining out of the washer at the end of the cycle. Close the lid during use, and clean the drain hose.
-
Increase the spin speed on the dryer if items are still wet after the cycle is done. Add extra time if there was a large load, which may need additional drying. Clean the lint screen, and use a heated dry cycle.
-
Clean out pockets in clothing if there is paper, tissue or loose objects in the dryer after a load has been dried. Loose pieces can also make a clicking or rattling sound in the dryer during use.
-
Examine the exhaust vent and exhaust hood if the dryer is not heating or is taking a long time to finish. Clean the exhaust vent and hood, and check the internal and external vents and grilles for items that may be blocking the heat and airflow.
-
Wait for warmer weather, or turn up the thermostat if you're using the dryer in a room with temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Items may remain cold or wet at these cold temperatures.
-
Dry smaller loads if items are damp and wrinkled at the end of the cycle. Take pieces out of the dryer when the cycle is complete.
