How to Get Rid of Ant Trails With Clorox

If ants are forming trails around your kitchen, patio, deck, garage or any other area of your property and you want to get rid of them, you don’t have to resort to spraying harsh, costly chemicals or hiring your local exterminator to get the job done. A simple homemade remedy will do the trick.

1. Fill a spray bottle with 1 ounce of bleach. Fill the rest of the bottle with warm water.

2. Locate the origination point of the ant trail. If the trail starts near a doorway or window, go outside and look for any signs of a trail up an outside wall or deck. Pay special attention to cracks in your siding or stucco and foundation. Follow the trail as far as possible, looking to see if there is a decomposing food source toward which the ants are trailing.

3. Adjust the spray bottle nozzle so that it releases a fine mist as opposed to a stream when sprayed. Spray the entire ant trail, inside and outside of your home, with the bleach water solution. Throw away any food or trash toward which the ants may be heading.

4. Leave the mixture on the ants for three to five minutes, until the ants stop moving. Understand that the bleach water solution will kill the ants.

5. Use an old cloth or mop to clean up the dead ants and bleach mixture.
