How to Unload a Caulk Gun
Caulk has many construction and home improvement uses. Caulk is used to prevent moisture from damaging the home in areas such as bath tubs, showers, sinks and exterior windows. Caulk is also used when installing molding in the home to hide the gap between the molding and the walls or ceiling and between molding pieces.
The easiest method of installing caulk is using a caulk gun. Caulk guns are a fairly uncomplicated piece of hardware, and unloading a caulk gun is a simple process.
Warning
Caulk cannot be removed from clothing, so be careful when handling.
-
Hold the caulk gun in front of you, parallel to the floor.
-
Locate the caulk tube release. The release is a long, round metal rod that sticks out the back of the caulk gun and pushes into the caulk tube. At the far end of the release the rod will turn at a 90-degree angle from the main length of the rod.
-
Turn the 90-degree angle piece of the rod until it faces straight up from the top of the caulk gun.
-
Pull the rod away from the caulk gun to release the tube of caulk. Remove the tube of caulk from the gun.
-
Wipe fresh caulk off the caulk gun with a paper towel before loading another tube.
