Is Lime Juice Used to Clean?
Lemons, with their high acidity levels and ability to combat bacteria, are the most common fruit used in household cleaning. You can use limes for similar purposes and they are useful for certain cleaning tasks, such as rust removal.
Rust Removal
For removing rust, put salt on the rust, then squeeze the lime juice over the salt and rust. Allow this solution to work for 2 to 3 hours and then scrub the area with the lime rind to remove the rust.
General Cleaning
Use limes in general cleaning practices much like lemons. These citrus fruits may also replace vinegar in homemade cleaning solutions. A lime-based formula can cut through grease and hard water buildup. Also, place a used lime half in a garbage disposal to eliminate odors.
Lime-Based Solution
To make a lime-based cleaning solution, combine 6 drops of lime essential oil, 1 tbsp. of borax, 2 tbsp. of vinegar, and 2 cups of hot water. Place the solution in a spray bottle and use it for general cleaning purposes.
