How to Remove Perfume Smell From the Carpet
Perfume is meant to create a distinctive scent with only a small amount of liquid. However, that scent can become overpowering and unpleasant if a large amount of the liquid is spilled. Carpeting absorbs spilled perfume like a sponge and the scent can therefore be difficult to remove.
You can remove a perfume smell from carpeting with a few household products.
Things You Will Need
- Paper towels
- Spray bottle
- White vinegar
- Liquid dish detergent
- Baking soda
- Broom
- Vacuum
-
Soak as much of the perfume as you can from the carpet with a paper towel. Press down on the towel. Avoid scrubbing, as this will disperse the perfume further into the carpet fibers.
-
Fill a spray bottle with a 50-50 solution of warm water and white vinegar. Spray the affected area. White vinegar is a strong cleaning agent and also a natural deodorizer that will help eliminate the perfume odor. Allow it to remain for 30 minutes.
-
Soak up the vinegar solution with a paper towel.
-
Mix 1 cup of water and 1 tbsp. of liquid dish detergent in a spray bottle. Shake to combine. Spray the stained area and blot it into the carpet with a paper towel.
-
Rinse the area with cool water and blot the moisture with a paper towel. Allow the area to dry.
-
Sprinkle baking soda onto the affected carpet area if the odor remains. Let it sit overnight.
-
Sweep up the baking soda and vacuum the area. Repeat steps 2 through 6 as necessary until the scent is completely gone.
